Babyshower the Short-Film
Shortly after booking Stop-Motion, I came across a posting on Backstage for a short film about a woman named Alice navigating the absurdity of her sister’s baby shower and the unbearable friends and family that attend. As a Queer, childless, early thirty something woman with a less than “traditional” life trajectory, I was immediately intrigued. The script was made available and I laughed out loud and cringed off my seat time and again in the span of a few pages. I threw my hat in the ring, and I’m so very glad that I did.
We shot Babyshower in Connecticut over a weekend I had off from Stop-Motion rehearsals. I had a delightfully messy, complicated, cringe-worthy, and hilarious time playing Alice. An incredible cast and crew came together and made it happen. May we all be so lucky to infuse our most eye-rolling experiences into our work, or perhaps better yet to one day not have to roll our eyes at all.
Babyshower was directed by Jibran Ahmed and the screenplay was written by Ciara Mikesell and Jibran Ahmed. I’m looking forward to seeing the final cut sometime in the Spring of 2022, and wishing it well in the festival circuit.
